Frequently Asked Questions

Who can be hypnotised?

Anybody who is willing can experience a hypnotic state. When working with an experienced professional, the techniques and programme will be customised for you. Additionally clients report they easily achieve the state and can use it for their continued success long after the sessions are over.

What is hypnosis?

By definition hypnosis is as a state of heightened receptivity in which you refocus your mind and body for success.  Hypnosis is a natural ability of the mind that we all experience daily.
Hypnosis is  naturally occurring and you may have already experienced a natural trance state, being completely immersed in an activity to the exclusion of everything else.  Hypnosis is not manipulation or mind control. It simply is a tool that will allow you to access the power of your mind and achieve more in your life.

Can I book to see you online?

Yes I'm available for both online sessions using Zoom as well as sessions in person at the Thames clinic.  Use the Schedule a Session form on the Contact page to book a free 15 minute consult or schedule a full session on the Book Online page.

Is hypnosis dangerous?

There are no documented cases of hypnosis doing harm to an individual.  Hypnosis has been recognised by the American Medical Association as a therapeutic tool since 1958. It is completely safe when practiced by an experienced professional. It is only dangerous if you are driving or operating machinery, so obviously please do not listen to hypnosis audio products at these times.

How long does it take to see benefits?

Rapid change is possible with hypnosis. Most of my clients are scheduled for a brief series of sessions, as my goal is to provide you with the most effective hypnotic process in the most efficient use of your time. This model allows for an effective series of sessions with continued reinforcement, self-hypnosis training, and a customised plan for your unique needs.
Many people experience the benefits of hypnosis from the very first session, hypnosis however  is a process.

What are your fees?

I charge $69 NZD per hour.  Payments can be made online at the time of booking via credit card,  or by direct bank transfer.

Is Hypnosis effective online?

Yes, it's just as effective as working face to face. Zoom is the preferred platform  but Skype also works well.

Is hypnosis manipulation?

Hypnosis is a state of mind that requires consent. You are aware of what I am saying during the session and at no stage will you be made to do anything against your own morals. You cannot be made to tell secrets while experiencing hypnosis.
Another  misconception of hypnosis is thinking you’re “too strong-willed” to be hypnotised. But actually it’s the opposite. If you already possess a strong ability to focus and concentrate, then you can access hypnotic states faster and easier.

Why hypnotherapy?

Almost every interaction we have is influenced by habits that have been ingrained in us from the time we were in our formative childhood years.
It's why we might attract partners with similar characteristics, have re-occuring frustrations with our work,  play out the same dramas with loved ones.  This tangle of frustrations can be debilitating, and hypnotherapy can help break these patterns. My approach is targeted, strategic, and specific to you. We name the frustrating patterns, identify the core conflicts behind the patterns, then systematically address them.

What does it feel like?

By definition, hypnosis is NOT a state of relaxation, but as many issues are related to stress or anxiety, we often create a profoundly relaxed state to assist in making the changes. Most people report feeling very relaxed or pleasantly lethargic. Many clients are surprised at how “normal” the experience feels, as many have been conditioned by movies or television to think there is a “magic feeling” that suddenly washes over you.
Your mind will be alert and perceptive of the suggestions it is receiving. Your focus will be directly on your experience or the words of the suggestions you are receiving.  You won't be "asleep".  You will be aware of your surroundings. You will still hear any background  noises– confirming that you are alert and in control during the session. I also use post-hypnotic suggestions techniques so you can remember everything that happened during your session.

I heard people saying hypnosis didn’t work for them- what happened?

The success of your experience is dependent on two factors – your willingness for change and the skills of the therapist.  If someone doesn’t have an honest desire for change, for example they're a smoker who is only seeing a therapist at the urging of a spouse, they are not as prepared to accept the suggestions for positive change. If, however, a smoker is fed up with the habit and no longer wants the cigarettes to be a part of their life, they are primed for success.  Hypnosis is not a “one-size-fits-all” process. I will custom-design a programme to help you reach your goals.
